Beauty & The Tomboy: eyewear & beauty tips

Posted On 25 July 2014

Gone are the days when glasses were considered un-cool or geeky.

These days there's no better way to express individualism than by rocking a pair of funky frames. I’ve worn glasses for well over 10 years and I’m also a huge beauty lover. One of the biggest challenges for me when it comes to choosing glasses, is how choose glasses that compliment my favourite makeup looks?

Well, whether you frequently wear a classic black liner, enjoy wild eye colours or like going au natural, I’ve got you covered on the glasses front! So take your pick from colourful, thick or half rimmed frames and I’ll share with you my favourite makeup looks from Fashion Weeks across the world for each style.

Colourful Frames// If you're a colour lover like me but don’t really like wearing bright makeup, why not try some colourful frames. This is an easy way to add a shot of colour and fun to any look and is perfect for someone that enjoys a more natural makeup look. I love to pair bright eyewear with bronzed, minimal makeup for a fun laid back look. I especially love these funky Lipsy spectacles which combine a classic rigged style frame with a gorgeous hint of pink.

Monochrome // With strong black and white colours taking centre stage this season, don’t be scared to try the trend on your eyes. Opt for striking kholled eyeliner in a sweeping structure designed to make an impact. Team with these gentle upswept frames from Retro 54, which give a soft touch to a standout look.

Thick Frames// Thicker framed glasses work well for almost every makeup look but I especially love my thicker frames for when I'm rocking a classic black liner. Pairing something like these Retro 54 frames and a red lip helps to create the perfect vintage look. With a tortoise shell design and a classic shape to them, these would perfectly frame your retro lined eyes

Feminine // And for those girls that love a bit of vintage, how about these gorgeous Lipsy frames! These feminine frames would look amazing paired with lashing of mascara, simple eye makeup and a matte pink lip. With a cool 50’s vibe, these pretty pink frames are a real statement piece.

Half Rimmed Frames// Finally, one for the more expressive and outlandish among us! If you enjoy experimenting with your eye makeup and want to show it off, why not try half rimmed specs. Beautifully mastered eyes need not be covered by large frames! Half rimmed glasses help to open up the eye area giving a lighter appearance than other frames. I particularly like the designs from Truth, which have beautiful detailing on the arms, whilst still leaving the eye area open and clear.
