For many of us, the ritual of cleaning, putting in and taking out contact lenses is a daily routine – one we barely think about as we go through the motions. Research reveals that while 80 per cent of contact lens wearers believe they are following all the rules when it comes to good contact lens hygiene, only two per cent actually are.
We’ve identified six of the most common contact lens concerns and provided some expert advice, so you can find the ideal lenses for you and wear them without any worries.
WORRIED YOU’LL FORGET TO CLEAN YOUR LENSES?
If you have a busy work schedule and active social life, it’s easy to forget to clean your lenses properly. Our experts suggest setting an alarm to remind you each night, or download a contact lens app for your phone like LensPal from Acuvue. You could even stick a post-it saying ‘clean lenses’ on the bathroom mirror or somewhere else you always visit before bed.
Or you could make life even easier by banishing cleaning from your contact lens routine altogether, by opting for dailies lenses like Focus® Dailies® or 1-Day Acuvue®?
WORRIED YOU’RE OVER-WEARING YOUR LENSES?
We all know how quickly time flies by when the kids are keeping you busy, or if you’re working shifts or long hours - it’s easy to exceed the time you’re advised to wear your lenses for.
Eliminate this worry by switching to lenses made with a “breathable material”, such as Air Optix® Aqua or Acuvue® TruEyeTM- because they allow more oxygen to reach the eye, they can be worn for longer!
WORRIED ABOUT TAKING LENSES OUT?
If you’re a bit squeamish about touching your eye to put in or take out your lenses, don’t worry you’re not alone. But it’s no reason to miss out on the convenience of wearing lenses!
If you’d prefer as little contact with your eyeball as possible, you could try Purevision lenses, which use unique technology to allow them to be worn continuously for up to 30 days – even at night. That way you only have to take them out and put them in once a month, instead of every day.
WORRIED ABOUT SLEEPING IN YOUR LENSES AFTER A NIGHT OUT?
We’ve all done it. Got home, kicked off our shoes, collapsed into bed after a night out and drifted off - forgetting to take our lenses out! We know that the sensation of waking up with eyelids stuck together and blurry vision is one we all dread. However, why worry when there are daily lenses available that you can sleep in! Why not try Air Optix® Night & Day Aqua, they are ideal for busy lifestyles.
WORRIED ABOUT DRY EYES?
Always wanted to try out contact lenses but have been told your dry eyes mean that you can’t? Or have you given up on your lenses because you suffer from dry eyes?
Either way, there is a solution. There are now contact lenses made from a new silicone hydrogel material. Using silicone instead of water in the lenses’ composition means a reduction on how much the lenses dry out or take water from your eyes. Try out Air Optix® Aqua or Acuvue® Oasys® Hydraclear® Plus.
WORRIED THAT ASTIGMATISM MEANS YOU CAN’T WEAR LENSES?
In days gone by having astigmatism meant that you couldn’t wear soft contact lenses - this is because soft lenses couldn’t accommodate the change in shape of the front surface of the eye – leading to a poor level of vision and an uncomfortable fit. With the introduction of ‘Toric’ contact lenses, astigmatism is no longer a barrier to wearing soft lenses – even daily ones!
There are now contact lenses for everyone – even customers with astigmatism can enjoy the convenience and comfort of contact lenses, with Focus® Dailies® Toric and Air Optix® Astigmatism.
